Exploring Glenloth Hall, Victoria

Glenloth  Hall…..a small part of what’s left of the town called Glenloth ,on a back road to Charlton.
We stopped at this Hall ,as it grabbed out attention while driving past.
Not much in this town now ,that once was most likely a busy place with the grain silo rail head that’s still standing but unused.
If you didn’t already know ,we love old places that hold a lot of history.
With an open gate and no sign to say Keep Out! a couple of us ventured into the Hall for a quick look.
The Hall isn’t huge, just a stage with a small room either side of the stage and some stairs. And toward the front of the hall another couple of rooms, one with a fire-place.
While all of us left the Hall and went for a walk up the road to take a look at the Silo and rail-head,Beaudine & Nadeine stayed behind.
About 15 minutes later they joined us up the road, after running from the Hall spooked!
Apparently after we left they went to the stage at the far end of the hall ,and were standing there.By now it was dark inside as the sun had just set out side, they had one headlamp torch between them as they stood on the stage.
They were arguing over a camera, both of them wanted to take some pictures of inside the hall.
While standing there debating who got the camera, what seemed to be a phone….started to ring!
The only problem was ,they’d just explored every room in that hall , there was no one inside and certainly no phone.
So as they tell us…….the camera became the last thing on their mind as they grabbed each others arm and stood there huddled together listening to a phone ring in an empty Hall .The worst part though , they had to run past the room that the phone noise was coming from, to exit the building.
The mystery of the ringing phone will remain just that! …….a mystery.

What a story, I just love it, some awesome photos too, but looks like something got onto the camera lens for a couple of photos, actually adds to the intrigue! I am surprised Beaudine didn’t cajole dad or mum to go back later and try and solve the phantom phone. Keep this type of story coming, tis very entertaining!

Thanks Ted! The photos weren’t the best inside the Hall,a bit of dust and in a hurry. This really scared them both and they were quite Happy to leave. But now they are talking about returning in the daylight hours to search for a phone 😉

Wow. I grew up out at Glenloth with my cousins whose farm was there. My mum and dad used to go out to the Glenloth Hall for dance balls in the 40’50’s. Anyway, fantastic pictures……and I can assure you – you weren’t alone out there! In a couple of photos there are whats called órbs’…….spirits/presence…..And the other funny thing is that the Glenloth telephone exchange was , I think, run out of a building just near the Hall…… Great work guys……My friend and I will be going out there to investigate…..we live in Charlton. cheers Kim

I spent all my childhood living in Glenloth, we always played in the old hall. My name is still scratched on the old silo.Left there in 1990 and have taken my 3 kids back to visit everytime I return to Victoria..Happy memories , Roger Fitzpatrick Perth

Hi! I just visited the hall! We were down in Charlton for the weekend and we saw this article! We went In there and searched for the phone. We went on the stage and in the silo! It’s so interesting, did you see the Glenloth Hotel? Well, thanks anyway! You made the highlight of our weekend!
